Meet Sarah

I'm the pumping mom who, back in 2011, couldn't find a bag I actually wanted to carry, so I built one, then built it into a brand that fights for working moms.

Whether it was in the nonprofit world in my early days or now at the helm of this business, I've dedicated my work to the empowerment of women. I'm so glad to share our products with you, and I want you to know we support your breastfeeding journey, whatever form or path that takes.

When you buy from us, you support a small business that in turn supports a diverse community of pumping parents.

How it started

I was always building something

This is me at about six, already turning a cardboard box into my next big idea, with my little sister along for the ride. The set dressing changed over the years. The instinct never did. If the thing I needed didn't exist, I'd build it.

Years later, as the executive director of a national nonprofit in Washington, DC, I worked to protect the rights of people needing long-term care. When I had my first baby, Maddy, in 2011, I became an exclusively pumping and supplementing mom. After my second, Abby, arrived in 2015, I was nursing and pumping. Through both, one thing stayed the same: there was no stylish, functional breast pump bag. So I built one, left my nonprofit career, and launched Sarah Wells Bags.

Beyond the bags

The fight didn't stop at a better bag

What started as a better bag became a platform. I've testified before Congress and championed the PUMP Act so pumping parents have real protections at work. I founded the Center for Modern Commerce Policy to fight for the small businesses that power our economy. And I wrote the book on it, literally: Go Ask Your Mothers, a guide for managers on supporting working moms so their whole team can thrive.

That work has been featured across outlets including CNN and the New York Times.

It's all about you

My goal is simple

To leave the world a little better for working moms than I found it. The joy of running this business, making these products, and writing my book is supporting you. I work toward that every day.
